Great Link to old cataloges (1930s to 1990)

For those of you who stayed children in their hearts I have a great link. Here is the link www.wishbookweb.com.The site contains scans from American cataloges from well known catalog companies. I also found Barbie dolls there and I thought it is good to post this link in my blog so that lots of other Barbie doll lovers can rummage there, too.

My first review

I’d like to change my blog a little bit. Usually I only show you the new Barbie dolls in my collection but I haven’t bought any dolls in the last weeks. The reason to write this review are the pics from the new “Gone With the Wind” Barbie dolls that were available yesterday. Here’s a short link for you that you know what I talk about https://www.dollgenie.com/profile-dg.php?id=3175 .   My first impression is that they look well. Obviously the new head mold developed for the 2001 Gone With the Wind Barbie dolls was also used for these dolls.

Pro:

  • + New head mold
  • + A new dress for Scarlett
  • + A new suit for Rhett
  • + Price

Contra:

  • + The red dress was already available in the 1990s
  • + Design of the box, why not a more beautiful box?

Can’t really say things about the quality now. In general my first impression is good . I’m surprised in a positive way. What I would like is more “Gone With the Wind” Barbie dolls. I know that Tonner produced more characters from the movie like Ashley, Melanie Wilkes, India and Belle Watling. I wish Mattel would offer them, too. Furthermore I would like to have different dresses. Scarlett has a lot of beautiful dresses. Tonner even produced a series of six dresses that were designed but didn’t make it into the movie. I think that are interesting points they could consider.

A new Barbie doll from Asia

Today I gonna open my treasure chest again and show you my latest Barbie doll. She arrived here three days ago and she’s called Fan Bing Bing. She’s an Asia Exclusive and portrays the Actress, Singer and Producer Fan Bing Bing. From the first moment I saw her, I knew she had to be part of my collection. I really wanted to have her in my collection because I collect Barbie dolls from Asia. So she fits perfectly in my collection. And here are some pics of Fan Bing Bing. I think she’s one of the loveliest Asian Barbie dolls Mattel produced in the last years.

Society Style Collection (TRU)

Today I gonna open my treasure chest again this week and I’ d like to show you my latest complete series, the Society Style collection.  This series was released by Toys ‘R’ Us in the mid 1990s and I think this is one of the most beautiful series they ever made. For me they are a memory to my first trip to Toys’ R’ Us in 1996 when I was 11 years old. I saw this series among others in their showcase and it was no question that I had to had them in my collection.  Some years passed by but yesterday the last one missing ( Emerald Enchantment Barbie) finally arrived.  I’m so happy to have the Society Style Collection now complete.

Sea Lovin Barbie

Today I open my treasure chest again and present you the Sea Lovin Barbie. She’s a Special Edition since she was only available in Europe. I’m not sure whether she was available in Canada or not.  Mine is almost complete except the two blue stars on her skirt (as you can see she has two blue stars on her skirt but they are not original). I got her from another collector, we changed the dolls. As you can see she comes with a t-shirt in navy style, a white skirt, duffle back and a pair of white shoes. She looks very similar to the Loving You Barbie.

The dress is made of a bell-bottomed black skirt with valance and a silver sparkling strapless top.  Accompanied by a pink bolero and a pink purse reflects this outfit the taste of the mid 1990s.

Barbie and the Sensations / Barbie and the BiBops

Today I gonna open my treasure chest again and show you my Barbie and the Sensations (Barbie and the BiBops called in Europe). Over the years I collected these dolls. I started with Belinda, the black singer of the Sensations. After a while I found Bopsy and Barbie. The last girl that arrived here is Bibi or Becky how she was called in the US, the Asian friend.

Interesting to tell is that the member of the group but Barbie have different names in Europe than in the US. In Europe Belinda was not available but the group was joined by a male member called Bobby. Bobby on the other hand was not available in the US. Bobby is the only doll missing in my collection to complete this series.

So to give you more information who is who in Europe, I’ ll give you a short list.

Barbie (US) = Barbie (Europe)

Becky(US) = Bibi (Europe)

Belinda (US) = not available in Europe

Bopsy (US) = Becky (Europe)

not available (US) = Bobby (male member of the band, Europe)

The box in the US and Europe is the same with the difference that in Europe the Band is called BiBops while they are called Sensations in the US and the graphic is a little different but discover it yourself. As always it’s interesting to learn about the differences Mattel made in different countries.

Kebaya, Kebaya, Kebaya …

Today I gonna open my treasure chest again.  Last week the new year started and today I’m going to show you my latest Barbie doll. I finally found the last one from the first series of Kebaya Barbie dolls from Malaysia.  The new lady in pink joins her two sisters in green and in white and completes this series. This series uses the Teresa headmold. The dolls are from 1998. The Barbie doll in the Pink Kebaya has pale pink lips while her sisters have red lips. Another thing that you can hardly see is that the Kebaya (traditional dress) is pink with a little touch of silver which reflects in nice way when you move the box. Now I do have 4 Kebaya Barbie dolls in my collection. There are 5.
