Music Lovin Skipper

After several weeks I was able to complete another outfit. It’s the outfit of the Music Lovin Skipper. I got the doll in May but until last week her outfit was incomplete. She was missing one of her cuffs, her shoes and her Walkman. By writing the word “Walkman” I feel so old because when I was little twenty years ago I had one but if you ask the youth of today they won’t have heard of it. So, a Walkman is a device to play a cassette for those who have never heard and never seen this device. Things one used before we had MP3s.

So back to the topic. This young girl was only available in Europe and Canada. She wears an eye-catching yellow combination and was released in 1986. She is hard to find in good and complete condition. So, here she is…. Music Lovin Skipper.

The handbag is back

Yesterday I was able to complete an outfit … after almost 17 years. At first I didn’t realized that the handbag was gone but several years ago I noticed it. And nobody seemed to know it. Later I realized that it was Fashion Avenue Fashion that was only sold in Europe.

By accident I found it last week in a heap of other Barbie stuff, you know these little accessories. I immediately asked the seller for the golden handbag and so I got it. What a happy day for every collector. Here’s a pic of what I’m talking about.

I managed it!!!

Finally after several weeks I can present you the latest success of my decoloration experiment. When I got this dress the blouse had several red areas. I suppose in the past the dress became wet and so the red skirt was marking off. With a little effort I managed to bleach it. Here is my result. It’s good, isn’t it?

Washday!!!

I’m sure lots of you know the problem. You buy a lot of clothes and one or two pieces have stains or a discoloration and it makes you mad. Three days ago we had a rainy Sunday. It annoyed me so that I decided to treat some of my Barbie clothes with stains. I must say that one piece was made of cotton and the other one was made of the  material used for the Beauty Secrets Barbie blouse. What did I do?

I boiled water and took a little bowl and Oxi powder (filled  the delivered spoon up to 3/4 ) and put the Oxi powder in the bowl. Then put the boiled water in the bowl until it is filled up to 50%. Then put the clothes in the bowl. Put a towel under the bowl because Oxi creates lots of foam. I bought my Oxi at the next discounter. It was no branded product.

Then let the clothes in the water for several hours. One of my stains needed 2 1/2 days until it completely disappeared. The other one is still in the bowl. Sunshine has a positive effect on the treatment and shortens it. The more sunshine the better.

A new dog for my Barbie dolls

I recently got a new dog for my collection. It’s a poodle from the 1980s (approx. 1984). The dog did not come with all accessories but I thought he was cute enough to give him a new home. In Europe he was called MyLord or simply Lord. In the US he was called Prince.  Now I can sometimes hear a woof in my showcase and maybe I’ll be lucky  and find the rest of his accessories in the future.

Great Link to old cataloges (1930s to 1990)

For those of you who stayed children in their hearts I have a great link. Here is the link www.wishbookweb.com.The site contains scans from American cataloges from well known catalog companies. I also found Barbie dolls there and I thought it is good to post this link in my blog so that lots of other Barbie doll lovers can rummage there, too.

My first review

I’d like to change my blog a little bit. Usually I only show you the new Barbie dolls in my collection but I haven’t bought any dolls in the last weeks. The reason to write this review are the pics from the new “Gone With the Wind” Barbie dolls that were available yesterday. Here’s a short link for you that you know what I talk about https://www.dollgenie.com/profile-dg.php?id=3175 .   My first impression is that they look well. Obviously the new head mold developed for the 2001 Gone With the Wind Barbie dolls was also used for these dolls.

Pro:

  • + New head mold
  • + A new dress for Scarlett
  • + A new suit for Rhett
  • + Price

Contra:

  • + The red dress was already available in the 1990s
  • + Design of the box, why not a more beautiful box?

Can’t really say things about the quality now. In general my first impression is good . I’m surprised in a positive way. What I would like is more “Gone With the Wind” Barbie dolls. I know that Tonner produced more characters from the movie like Ashley, Melanie Wilkes, India and Belle Watling. I wish Mattel would offer them, too. Furthermore I would like to have different dresses. Scarlett has a lot of beautiful dresses. Tonner even produced a series of six dresses that were designed but didn’t make it into the movie. I think that are interesting points they could consider.

A new Barbie doll from Asia

Today I gonna open my treasure chest again and show you my latest Barbie doll. She arrived here three days ago and she’s called Fan Bing Bing. She’s an Asia Exclusive and portrays the Actress, Singer and Producer Fan Bing Bing. From the first moment I saw her, I knew she had to be part of my collection. I really wanted to have her in my collection because I collect Barbie dolls from Asia. So she fits perfectly in my collection. And here are some pics of Fan Bing Bing. I think she’s one of the loveliest Asian Barbie dolls Mattel produced in the last years.

Society Style Collection (TRU)

Today I gonna open my treasure chest again this week and I’ d like to show you my latest complete series, the Society Style collection.  This series was released by Toys ‘R’ Us in the mid 1990s and I think this is one of the most beautiful series they ever made. For me they are a memory to my first trip to Toys’ R’ Us in 1996 when I was 11 years old. I saw this series among others in their showcase and it was no question that I had to had them in my collection.  Some years passed by but yesterday the last one missing ( Emerald Enchantment Barbie) finally arrived.  I’m so happy to have the Society Style Collection now complete.
